We often forget about the skin on our bodies. Maybe because we don’t look at it as much as we look at our faces, or maybe we think we don’t have that extra five minutes to care for it. But let me remind you, reader, that your body is skin. And your skin is the biggest organ in your body. Like your face, it needs attention.
For the ones that have dry skin all year round, having a tub of body lotion/moisturizer/butter on hand is a must. My skin, for example, gets hugely -sometimes painfully- dehydrated during colder months. And this problem seems to get more prominent with time, perhaps something to do with the disrupted climate. So, just like my face, my body needs a hard-working formula that will properly moisturize my stubbornly dry skin. Here at Wonderflaw have carefully chosen these products that will work for dry, very dry, and/or occasionally dry skin types. Read away and maybe you will find one that will do wonders for you this season.
Weleda Skin Food Body Butter, 315 TL
Known for being a beacon of hope for dry skins worldwide, Skin Food Body Butter contains sunflower seed oil, cocoa seed butter, shea butter, rosemary leaf extract, chamomile and calendula flower extracts to first moisturize and then to soothe very dry skin types. It is free from synthetic preservatives, fragrances, colorants or raw materials derived from mineral oils making it one of the cleanest formulas out there. It comes in a sustainable glass jar, too.
Byredo Bal D’Afrique Body Lotion, 990 TL at Beymen
A Byredo classic, Bal D’afrique, also comes in the form of a body lotion. As one of the earliest fragrances launched by Ben Gorham, it’s an ode to his father’s years spent on the continent of Africa. The woody scent containing Moroccan Cedarwood and vetiver is combined with shea butter in this version. It’s heart and base notes of violet, African Marigold, bergamot and the South African buchu plant comes after. Since the scent is pretty high up in this lotion’s ingredient list, this might be suitable for normal skin types that are resistant to fragrance.
Drunk Elephant Sili Body Lotion, 419 TL at Sephora
Like in all its lineup of products, Drunk Elephant created a body lotion that can adapt your skin to environmental stressors. Its formula includes: Marula and shea butters for barrier protection and moisturizing properties, a 5-Ceramide blend derived from plant sources that can act like a wax-like hydrating substance that occurs naturally in skin. The list continues with coconut and argan oils for rich sources of fatty acids, Sacha Inchi Seed oil to soothe the skin, olive-derived squalene to act as a natural antioxidant. Finally, the yellow fruit of the Spondias mombin tree, befittingly called Spondias Mombin Pulp Extract is added as a good source for their free-radical-fighting and anti-inflammatory abilities.
Nécessaire The Body Lotion, $25
The fragrance free, non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic lotion can be a suitable choice for people with dry and sensitive skin. Nécessaire is a very conscious -and woke, if you will- brand in that they are very transparent about their packaging: Every product also comes with recycling instructions. In terms of its ingredients, The Body Lotion has niacinamide, vitamins C and E, omega-6, omega-9, shea butter and jojoba oil. It moisturizes while nourishes and strengthens the skin on your body.
Nuxe Rêve de Miel Melting Honey Oil Balm, 176 TL
Honey is the main player in this balm, and natural-origin active ingredients include argan and borage oils. It looks like a rich cream at first, but turns into a silky oil when rubbed into the skin, turning a daily chore of moisturizing your body into an instant spa experience. If you’re a fan of Nuxe’s classic lip balm, you can think of Rêve de Miel Melting Honey Oil Balm as a very close cousin. The floral and milky vanilla fragrance is a bonus.
The Body Shop Avocado Body Butter, 299.90 TL
The cult favorite brand of every millennial’s junior high school years recently renovated its body butters. They are now approved by The Vegan Society, have cleaner formulas, and the packaging became fully recyclable. Each tub has handcrafted Community Fair Trade shea butter from Ghana and the Avocado one also contains sustainably sourced Hass avocado oil from South Africa and Community Fair Trade Brazil nut oil from Peru.
